PMS: Periods - Men’s Sufferings (How to handle her periods so you don’t suffer)
“PMS” is simply short for Premenstrual Syndrome, the time where many women experience physical and metal symptoms before onset of her menstrual period. The PMS period can last few days, and the symptoms are scary (we can all attest to that, can’t we?). She undergoes sudden change in mood swings and increased irritability. Even so, this does not automatically spell doom for us! Read on to find out how to overcome monthly PMS battle to make her your little angel.
“My tummy feels all bloated and it hurts like mad; the feeling is kind of like having an overdose of lactic acid build-up in your tummy.”- Sandra Ng, 24
“I’ll be totally lethargic and reckless the day before my periods comes. It is a natural habit for me to sleep for an extra three hours the day before my “Red Aunt” comes visiting.”- Kristina Fong, 21
“My mood swings are really wild. I can switch from a really sunny mood to quiet and cold within seconds I don’t think we girls mean to react this ways, but during PMS, we cannot help getting irritated real easily. Thus, trivial stuff we are unhappy about gets amplified. Guys can never understand this part about us.” - Li Min, 20
“I will crave for lots of chocolates when my period is coming. I will have to munch on sweet stuff to balance the fluctuations of certain hormones in my body. However, when the day comes, I will have reduced appetite for my first two days instead.”- Terrie Ng, 19
“I will be extremely tired and have a very pale face, as if blood has literally drained out of me. Even full-fledged make-up will not help my pallid face.” - Jamie Lum, 21
Now, let’s get a scoop on what some guys do to alleviate their girl’s (and their own) sufferings. “I will always make a note on the days when she will enter the PMS period. This shows that I am really concerned for her health and well, of course, no intimacy for the following days to come.” - Hubert Wang, 24
“I usually stock up on chocolates. They contain ‘happy hormones’ and really work in perking her up. But because she finds chocolates sinful though delicious, I try to reduce her calories intake by sharing them with her. Because I have witnessed her worst side during her PMS period, making her smile at all costs is worth all the while.”- Darren Yang, 28
“The days before her period is due, I will try to cater to her tastes during mealtimes. Though a lover of chilled drinks, I accommodate her and consume warm beverages instead. She get nasty cramps after drinking cold beverages.”- Hifizie, 29
“I will arrange a stay in for the both of us during this period. As her cramps are unpredictable, I try not to go out unnecessarily in case she experiences an unexpected attack. We usually play Scrabble, poker, etc. Oh, being a sensitive guy, I also keep some Panadol at bay.”- Vincent, 25
“For the days before her time of the month comes, I try to avoid meeting her face to face. She get really hysterical and bitchy during that period. Thus, to prevent further quarrels, we just chat on MSN or on the phone to prevent another argument that can arise unnecessarily. We have talked about this arrangement and she’s totally cool about it.”- Dominic Lo, 25
“My girlfriend is rather active all the time, even before or during her menstruation. She never really complained about her cramps, so I guess I chose the right gal!”- Timothy Stoker, 26 Not every man’s as lucky as Mr. Timothy here, so do your mental and physical preparations well, and the time of the month could very well turn into a splendid weekend for the both of you. Des: Remember when I was still with Lydia (ex-girlfriend), when her menstruation comes, she definitely suffer from unexpected cramps. She get irritated easily and become very grumpy. Now I feel that I really never been a good boyfriend compared to those mentioned above. During that time, I only try to please her by getting her favorite weekly magazines, or cakes that would really make her day. Undergo medical exposure during my national service days, I had basic knowledge of what normally my camp’s M.O (medical officer) prescribe for the females. Therefore whenever Lydia expected a cramp, I would encourage her to take ‘Buscopan’ (prevent abdominal pain). But of course I did propose to cut down meet ups during this period of time, but she would object the idea, as she want me to be with her at all times. We do had arguments because of that, sometimes it’s really not easy to control everything in our hands.
